Product Empties: January, 2018

Ever wonder what products someone else uses and what they think of them?? These are my product empties for the month of January:

Personal Care

  • Bottle of CVS brand saline solution: I use this to rinse my contacts before I put them in every morning, as well as any time they get cruddy. I pick up a bottle or two a few times a year.
  • Bottle of Clear Care disinfecting solution: My contacts soak in this every night, and get squeaky clean. I’ve been using this for as long as I can remember, and will continue to do so, unless something better comes out. (Or until they develop a corrective surgery for people with horrendous astigmatism.)
  • Tube of Bath & Body Works Ultra Shea Body Cream in Frosted Snow Blossom: I loved this scent, and the packaging is so pretty. I’ll definitely pick this one up again!
  • Tube of Pantene Curl Sculpting Gel: I discovered this gel fairly recently, and have been pretty pleased with it. It’s a keeper, for now.
  • Bottle of Thera Tears Lubricant Eye Drops: I use a ton of these drops, especially after my eye doctor told me to put a few drops in my eyes every morning and night, to help with my dry-eye discomfort. It made a huge difference!
  • Bottle of Herbal Essences Anti-Frizz Conditioner: Not much to say about this stuff… It was fine, but I don’t really notice much of a difference between shampoo/conditioner brands/formulas, so I buy whatever I can get on sale.
  • Tube of Colgate Total Daily Repair toothpaste: As with shampoo/conditioner, I just buy whatever toothpaste I get a good deal on, since I don’t notice much of a difference.
  • Small tube of Briogeo Curl Charisma Frizz Control Gel: I got this in a Sephora Favorites set at the end of last year, and I liked it. I put it on my hair before gel, and it did seem to add some softness. I haven’t priced the full size, but I might after I finish the rest of that set it came with.
  • Bath & Body Works Cinnamon Caramel Swirl foaming hand soap: I didn’t like this scent when I first started using it, but it really grew on me, and I was sad to finish it.

Household

  • 50-ounce bottle of Era laundry detergent: I’m not at all brand-loyal when it comes to laundry detergent, mainly because I’ve never really noticed much of a difference between brands. This one worked just fine.
  • Bath & Body Works Winter Candy Apple 3-wick candle: You can read about my candle obsession here. This scent was nice, but a little too artificial smelling for me. Definitely not a favorite.
  • Bath & Body Works Twisted Peppermint 3-wick candle: I got this as a freebie with a pre-Christmas order, and while I liked the smell on “cold sniff” (as the candle people say), both my husband and I thought it smelled like kerosene while it was burning.
  • Bath & Body Works Cinnamon Honey Apple 1-wick candle: I didn’t particularly like this one, either, although the packaging is really cute.
  • White Barn Evergreen 3-wick candle: The scent of this candle was fantastic!! It was a powerful and very realistic evergreen scent, and our house smelled like we had just brought home a Christmas tree every time I burned it!
  • Container of Lysol Disinfecting Wipes: I mainly use these for cleaning in the bathrooms. In my experience, the Lysol and Clorox ones are interchangeable, so I stock up whenever either one of them is on sale.
  • Bottle of Scrubbing Bubbles Foaming Bleach bathroom cleanerOne of my very least favorite household chores is cleaning showers. Anything I can do to make it easier, I’ll do! Even though I hate the smell of bleach, I’ve found that bleach-based cleaners are most effective when combating soap scum and mildew. This one gets the (unpleasant) job done.

Product Hit of the Month: The Bare Minerals Marvelous Moxie lip gloss

Product Miss of the Month: The peppermint Bath & Body Works candle

Samples

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve probably seen my Sample Sunday posts. I love sample sizes and trying new products of all kinds, but my stash has gotten a little out of control. As a result, I’ve started pulling out a few samples on Sundays, to try out over the next couple of weeks. Here are the samples I finished in January:

Do you use any of these products, too? Are you a big fan of samples, or do you stick with the tried-and-true?

Product Empties: December, 2017 Edition

These are the products I finished up in December:

Personal Care

  • Tub of Mario Badescu Almond & Honey Non-Abrasive Face Scrub: I’ve had this in my shower for over a year. I like that it cleans my face without abrasiveness, but I don’t think it does much exfoliating.
  • Pack of Collagen Make-Up Cleansing Wipes: I got these at Dollar Tree, figuring it was worth giving them a shot for the cheap price. While they did a fine job of taking off my make-up, they’re very thin and I didn’t like the texture at all.
  • Tube of Garnier Fructis Style Curl Scrunch Controlling Gel: This was just okay. I found it kind of drying, and the hold was not great. (I like a nice firm hold on my curls, since they get pretty frizzy without it.)
  • Travel size bottle of Up & Up Clear Comfort Multi-Purpose Solution: I keep one of these in my travel bag. It’s cheap and works well.
  • Stick of Dove Advanced Care Invisible Anti-Perspirant in Sheer Fresh: This was the first one of these I tried, and I liked it. I’m not particularly brand-loyal with deodorant, but I’ll pick this up again the next time I can get a good price.
  • Tube of Bath & Body Works Ultra Shea Body Cream in Twisted Peppermint: I loved this scent!!
  • Can of Gillette Satin Care Dry Skin Shave Gel: I’m also not brand-loyal with shave gel, but I tend to use this one because it goes on sale every month.
  • Small tube of Crest Complete Whitening Plus Scope toothpaste: My husband and I both like this kind of toothpaste, so I grabbed this tube when I saw it at Dollar Tree.
  • Bottle of Clear Care Cleaning & Disinfection Solution: I wear extended-wear (each set lasts for three months) contacts, and this cleans them really well.
  • Bottle of Joico Joilotion Sculpting Lotion: I put a little of this on my hair after I blow-dry it. I’ve been using it for years, and will continue to do so, unless I find a better option.
  • Tube of Frizz-Ease Secret Weapon Flawless Finishing Creme: I put a little of this on my hair when it’s looking kind of frizzy.
  • Small Colgate Total Dental Floss: Not surprisingly, I’m not brand-loyal with dental floss. I got this particular one for free in my last goody-bag from my dentist.
  • Two bottles of Thera Tears Dry Eye Therapy Eye Drops: My eyes have been very dry lately, so my eye doctor recommended that I put a couple of these drops in my eyes when I get up in the morning and before I go to bed. I was skeptical, but doing so has made a big difference in my comfort level.
  • Sample size tube of Pangea Organics Nigerian Ginger with Lavender & Thyme Facial Cream: I’m not sure where I got this, possibly in a past Birchbox or Ipsy Glam Bag. It worked pretty well, but I didn’t love the scent.
  • Sample size of Ahava Dead Sea Crystal Osmoter Facial Serum: I’m not sure where I got this one, either, probably with an Ulta order. It was fine, but basically an oil, which I don’t like the feeling of on my face.
  • Bottle of CVS brand Calcium & Vitamin D supplements: I don’t get enough calcium in my diet most days, so I usually take one of these.
  • Bottles of CVS brand CoQ-10 and Magnesium Oxide supplements: Along with the one below, I take these supplements for my migraines on the recommendation of my neurologist. Much to my amazement, this “cocktail” noticeably decreases the intensity – not the frequency, unfortunately – of my migraines.
  • Bottle of Radiance Platinum Vitamin B-2 supplements: I have a hard time finding B-2 in the generic, CVS brand, so I usually end up with this brand of them.

Household

  • Small Target apple cinnamon scented candle: The scent on this candle was undetectable, but I loved the mercury glass-effect of the glass container.
  • Bottle of Era Active Stainfighter detergent: I’m not at all brand loyal with laundry detergent, because they all seem to work equally well, to me. I got this one on sale, and it worked just fine.
  • Bottle of Comet Stainless Steel Powder Cleanser: I like to use these powder cleaners on my sink. This one was fine, but I’ll try other options, too.

Makeup

Product Hit of the Month: It’s not exciting, but those Thera Dry lubricating eye drops have made a big difference in my eye discomfort and dryness.

Product Miss of the Month: Either one of the lip colors. They both looked pretty bad on me.

Product Empties: November, 2017 Edition

I recently started watched a wide variety of videos on YouTube, and discovered the “product empties” genre. Are you familiar with these? Basically, people show empty containers of products they finished during the month, and most also give mini-reviews of them. A lot of the empties videos I’ve seen focus on makeup, and/or skincare, and/or household products, but I wouldn’t be surprised if these videos exist for other kinds of products, too.

The first couple of times I watched these videos, I found them kind of ridiculous. I mean, what’s the point of looking at the empty packages of products other people have used?? But I did appreciate the reviews of some products I was interested in, and eventually I started to wonder about the quantity of products I used up in given month. How many hand soaps? Cleaners? Lip balm? So… I decided to keep track of my own product empties from last month!

Here’s what I finished up:

Personal Care

That Bath & Body Works lotion smelled so good!!

Household

  • Pack of Finish Powerball dishwasher tablets: These work well, so I stock up whenever they go on sale.
  • Bath & Body Works Caramel Pumpkin Swirl 3-wick candle: Read about my candle obsession here.
  • Bath & Body Works Vanilla Pumpkin Marshmallow 3-wick candle: I’m (obviously) a sucker for these sweet, candle scents.
That’s embarrassingly few cleaning products…

Skincare & Makeup

That liquid lipstick looked frightening on me!

Product Hit of the Month: Hands down, that wonderful Bath & Body Works Salted Caramel Apricot body cream!

Product Miss of the Month: Definitely the Stila lipstick. The product, itself, may be great, but that color was appalling on me!
